Connection Guide

Get the best streaming connection. Learn how to optimize your network for Kristal Streams.

Wired vs Wireless Connection

For the most reliable streaming experience, we recommend:

Wired (Ethernet) Connection - Best Choice

  • Most stable and reliable
  • Lowest latency and fastest speeds
  • Best for 4K streaming
  • No interference from other devices
  • Recommended for Smart TVs and gaming consoles

Wireless (Wi-Fi) Connection

  • Convenient for mobile devices
  • Good for HD streaming with strong signal
  • Can be affected by distance and obstacles
  • May experience interference from other devices
  • 5GHz band recommended over 2.4GHz

Router Optimization

Optimize your router for better streaming performance:

Router Placement:

  • Place router in a central location
  • Keep it elevated off the floor
  • Avoid metal objects and electronic interference
  • Keep away from microwaves and cordless phones
  • Position antennas vertically for better coverage

Router Settings:

  • Update router firmware regularly
  • Use WPA3 or WPA2 security (not WEP)
  • Change default password
  • Enable Quality of Service (QoS) for streaming
  • Disable unused features to free up resources
  • Use less congested Wi-Fi channels

Wi-Fi Bands Explained

Modern routers offer dual-band connectivity:

5GHz Band (Recommended)

  • Faster speeds for streaming
  • Less interference from other devices
  • Better for HD and 4K content
  • Shorter range than 2.4GHz
  • Best when device is close to router

2.4GHz Band

  • Longer range than 5GHz
  • Better at penetrating walls
  • More crowded frequency
  • Slower speeds
  • Good for SD streaming and distant devices

How to Set Up Ethernet Connection

  1. Get an Ethernet cable (Cat5e or better)
  2. Connect one end to your router's LAN port
  3. Connect other end to your device's Ethernet port
  4. Your device should automatically detect the connection
  5. If using a Smart TV, go to Network Settings and select Wired
  6. Run a speed test to verify your connection
Run Speed Test

Improve Wi-Fi Connection

  • Move closer to your router
  • Remove obstacles between device and router
  • Switch to 5GHz band if available
  • Restart your router weekly
  • Limit number of connected devices
  • Use Wi-Fi extenders or mesh systems for large homes
  • Update your device's Wi-Fi drivers

Troubleshooting Connection Issues

  • Restart your modem and router (unplug for 30 seconds)
  • Check all cable connections are secure
  • Test connection on multiple devices
  • Contact your ISP if speeds are consistently slow
  • Consider upgrading your internet plan for multiple streams
  • Replace old routers (3+ years old)
